Glossary of Terms
What is the “Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics”?
The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) is a coalition of national animal protection groups that promotes a meaningful, reliable, non-animal testing standard and logo for cosmetics, personal care, and household products. The Coalition was developed to meet both consumer and corporate demand for a single, reliable certification that designates products as free of new animal testing.
What is the “Corporate Standard of Compassion for Animals” (“the Standard”)?
The Standard is a commitment a Company makes to ban animal testing during any stage of its products’ development. The Standard applies to a Company’s Cosmetics and Household Products. As part of that pledge, a Company is required to obtain declarations from each of its Suppliers and Third Party Manufacturers that the Ingredients, formulations, or products supplied to the CCIC-approved Company, have not been Animal Tested after that Company’s Fixed Cut-off Date. The result is a product guaranteed to be 100% free of new Animal Testing. While Ingredients may have been tested in the past, the Standard is designed to prevent future Animal Testing. Commitments are updated on an annual basis.
We offer items that make the world a better place.
When you choose to purchase products with handcrafted ingredients from the developing world, you are making a statement that the poor should get to participate fully and benefit from global trade. But more than that, you are giving a mother a dignifying work option that enables her to support her family. You are empowering an orphan to rebuild the economy of a country ravaged by genocide and disease. In short, you are helping the world become what it ought to be, an interconnected global family. That's our dream and that's what it means "to buy with a purpose."
Is there a better way?
Organic has become even more confusing in our industry. That is why we take a better approach. Over 70 percent of farms that were inspected to become certified organic growers have never been re-inspected! Your clients want Natural!
To create our amazing line of skincare we have had to look to the global community for some of the active ingredients.
We source as much locally to reduce our carbon footprint, but some things have to be sourced through our global network. We reach out to a lot of suppliers through micro-finance projects created by CARE and others. The projects are Fair-trade and specifically are created to support woman and girls in developing villages.
Our Carbon Neutral Process leaves no footprint and our ingredients are the highest quality you can buy from local sources. We work with Organic Farms to source lavender and other botanicals. We are the only cosmetology company that has created a three-part certification process for our ingredients through O.W.N. (Organic, Wildcrafted, and Natural) Certification.
A to Z Sustainable Process
Our Social performance indicators cover 35 items to report on for workplace, human rights, suppliers, products and services. We are part of an international undertaking whose mission is to develop and disseminate globally applicable sustainability guidelines for voluntary use by organizations reporting on the economic, environmental, and social dimensions of their activities, products and services.
The social dimension of sustainable products captures the impact of a manufacturer’s activity on society, including on employees, customers, community, supply chain, the environment and business partners.
Organic Ingredients
Organic certification is a certification process for producers of organic food and other organic agricultural products. In general, any business directly involved in food production can be certified, including seed suppliers, farmers, food processors, retailers and restaurants.
Requirements vary from country to country, and generally involve a set of production standards for growing, storage, processing, packaging and shipping.
Zero Landfill Waste
We have taken steps to eliminate our waste as well as have no negative impact on the environment. Just like Subaru in Indiana we have adopted a Zero-Landfill Waste standard and recycle or reuse everything that comes through our lab.
